Whatever happens with the new console (or consoles), I’m just desperate to see Microsoft ditch the whole “X” and “S” thing for the next generation. If this is to be a more Windows-like system as speculated, it makes sense to differentiate in a big way by going with something totally unfamiliar – I don’t care what it is, just make it stand out!
Ben, our staff writer here at Pure Xbox, said to me recently that he’d call the console “Xbox Home” and the handheld “Xbox Portable”, which seems to make sense to me! it might be a bit on the nose, but it would (hopefully) get rid of any confusion about which system to buy compared to the likes of the One S, One X, Series S and Series X.
Anyway, nothing’s official yet and most of what we’re talking about here is just based on reports and speculation, so who knows what the future holds? It’s fun to talk about though – we’re really keen to hear what you think the next Xbox console and the 2027 Xbox handheld (and the 2025 handheld if you wish) should be called when they arrive.
