So far, in the great renaissance of TV shows and movies based on video games that we’ve had in recent years, all three console makers have thrown a hat in the ring, each with adaptations out and more in development.
PlayStation definitely has the most out of the gate so far, while Nintendo is still just getting started. When it comes to Xbox, head of Microsoft gaming Phil Spencer says there’s more to come.
Spencer told Variety in an interview that the company is learning with each project, and that it is “gaining confidence” with each adaptation.
“We learned from doing Halo. We learned from doing Fallout. So all of these build on themselves. Obviously, we’ll have a couple that miss. But what I’d say to the Xbox community that likes this work is you’re going to see more, because we’re gaining confidence and we’re learning through this.”
This comes just ahead of Xbox’s next big adaptation, the Minecraft movie starring Jack Black.
It’ll be in theatres in a little more than two short weeks at the time of writing, so we’ll see how Xbox does taking one of its franchises to the big screen.
